If your car was stuck outside during the last hailstorm and it now looks like it's got a bad case of chicken pox, you've got your work cut out for you. Those hail dents can seriously undermine the value of your car, not to mention the fact that they'll leave your car looking pretty bad. Luckily, there are some things you can do to get rid of the dents. Here are three of them.

Let the Heat Do All the Work

If you live in a region of the United States that experiences extreme heat during the summer, let the sun go to work for you. Exposing your car to heat can help get rid of the minor hail dents that are covering your car. As the heat builds up on your car, the metal expands, causing the dents to pop back into place. If you don't live in a region that experiences extreme heat during the summer or the hail damage occurred during a period of cooler temperatures, you can still put the heat to work for you. All you need to do is grab your blow dryer – preferably one that's professional grade. Point the blow dryer directly over the hail dent and turn the power on to high. You'll want to make sure that your blow dryer is no closer than about 3" to your car's finish and no farther away than about 6" from the surface. That way, your car gets the full effects of the heat without damaging the paint. This method works well when you only have a few minor hail dents.

Put Dry Ice to Work for You

If you've got some significant hail damage to your car and the heat treatment didn't work, it's time to reach for the dry ice. Applying dry ice directly to the dents can help remove the dents and restore the smooth finish. You'll want to grab a pair of heavy-duty gloves for this method. Carefully grab a piece of dry ice and place it directly over the dented area. Rub the ice across the surface of your car until the dented portion expands back to its natural position. This method works well on minor to medium hail dents.
